How to Make Your Mozilla Firefox Browser Secure

Your internet\web browser is a medium for you to connect to the internet or online world. On the other hand, it is also a medium for those online threats like Trojans, viruses, spyware, spam, fake free online virus removal software (which are threats themselves ) etc. to slip in to your computer.

Considering the risk of rising online threats, privacy infringements, and data\identity thefts etc., it should be your priority to safeguard your web browser. How you can do this is explained here in this article. This free Mozilla Firefox support guide will help you tighten the security noose around your Mozilla Firefox browser and prevent malware, phishing, spam etc. from intruding in to your computer.

Procedure:

Mozilla Firefox -

If you are using Mozilla Firefox as your web browser, check these instructions to make it secure. Open Mozilla Firefox from the desktop shortcut. Alternatively, you can open it from the Start button, All Programs. Click the Tools tab and point down to select Options. Depending on the type of your Firefox version, the first tab you will see will either be General or Main. Under this tab, look for the Always ask me where to save files option.

This option will be disabled by default. Instead the Save Files to option will be set by default to the Downloads folder or any other default directory. You will need to select the Always ask me where to save files option. It will enable you to have more control on the downloadable items that will seek for your permission before being automatically downloaded to the Downloads or any other location in your computer.

Now click the Privacy tab. look for the Remember What I enter in forms and the search bar option. This will enabled by default. You will need to disable this option. To do so, click to uncheck the box beside this option. Depending on your Firefox version, you may see Remember search and form history instead of Remember What I enter in forms and the search bar. Uncheck this option and move on to the next option which is Accept cookies from sites.

This option will be enabled. From the drop-down menu next to Keep until, you will see the default option set to they expire. This means that your browser is set to remember and keep all the cookies (small files that keep track of your online activities) until they expire. Now you can understand that this can be very dangerous, at least in case of phishing, malware websites that create and roll out malicious add-ons, virus, malware software, fake online virus removal software, malware removal software etc. Cookies of these websites track and collect your online activities and personal information for their own advantage.

Thus, set this option to enable the user permission. Click the drop-down arrow next to Keep until and select ask me every time. From the next time onwards, whenever you will open a website, Firefox will seek your permission to either allow or deny cookies to run on that webpage. If it is trusted website like Firefox or Microsoft, you can click the Allow button or simply Allow for Session button. If you choose the latter option, the cookies will save and track your activities only for the time till the webpage is opened. So, Firefox will no longer save cookies when the webpage is closed.

For malicious or suspected websites, you can simply hit the Deny button. You can even view the cookie information and decide accordingly whether to allow or deny a cookie. Now click the Security tab and verify that the Warn me when sites try to install add-ons option is checked. If it's not, check it. Under the Passwords section, click to check the box beside Use a master password option. This option not only lets Mozilla Firefox manage all your stored passwords but also encrypts your computer data. Choose this option only if you trust Mozilla Firefox.

When you choose this option, it will ask for your current password (blank if it is not already set) and new password. Confirm the password and hit the OK button. Now click the Content tab and deselect the Enable Java box. Now click the Advanced button next to Enable JavaScript. In the Advanced JavaScript Settings window, remove checkmarks from all the boxes and hit the OK button to close it. Besides, enable the Block pop-up window option.

When done, click the OK button to save the changes and close the Options window. Firefox might prompt you to restart the browser to save these changes. Hit the Restart button and Firefox will close and reopen. When done, download these plug-ins viz. HTTPs plug-in, AdBlockPlus, and Ghostery. You must download the Firefox version of all these plug-ins.

Besides, use an antivirus program that scans and protects your Firefox browser from different tracking cookies, malicious websites, malicious scripts, spam add-ons etc. A number of antivirus programs like McAfee have a site-scan feature that proactively warns you about a website's genuineness and maliciousness.

Besides these settings, you must download and install latest browser updates and patches whenever these are available. Though Firefox always prompts you to download install whenever an update is available, but you can also manually download them from the Firefox website. Choose what suits you best, but do install latest updates.

What Handy Tools Has Firefox Added For Web Developers?

At the beginning of February, Firefox for Windows, Mac and Linux released some handy tools for web developers that will allow them to change the look and feel of a website in real time. This will make the job of a developer much easier and will allow them to do some incredible things with the internet. But what are some of these new tools and what do they mean for the web development industry?

Page Inspector
This will give web developers access into a web page's structure and layout without them having to leave Firefox. This will allow developers to navigate efficiently between page elements and viewing the HTML documentation for the page.
Style Inspector
This will make editing the style of the website much easier. Developers will be given access to CSS Properties and will be able to view or change the values for their website all within Firefox.
Scratch Pad
This feature uses the Eclipse Orion code editor to highlight syntax, as well as including other features that will make it much easier and simpler to write JavaScript for developers.
Full-Screen API
The Mozilla Full-Screen API for websites and web applications will allow developers to build online experiences that make use of the entire screen. Essentially, this will allow web developers to create full screen games (creating an experience that rivals that of a gaming console), engrossing video experiences, and presentation sharing.
WebGL
This is actually a web standard that allows websites and web applications to display hardware-accelerated 3D graphics without the use of any third-party software. Firefox now supports an Anti-Aliasing feature for WebGL that will allow web developers to create objects that blend and move smoothly. Firefox now also supports CSS 3D Transforms, which will allow developers to animate 2D elements into 3D without the use of third-party plugins.
Firefox has also placed an emphasis on improving its add-on compatibility by making them compatible by default. This has been a feature long worked on by Firefox's web developers and is finally ready to be utilized after many failed attempts at improving compatibility.

Through the use of these handy and revolutionary tools, web developers using Firefox around the world will be able to change the internet as we know it. By making it easier and simpler to change websites in real time (without having to leave Firefox), developers will be able to create better and more user-friendly projects.

Firefox Plugin Development: A Killer Strategy to Survive Competition

If you are just hooked to the Firefox browser, then you know the importance of Add-ons. Life is nothing without extensions and plugins for Firefox users. The whole strategy of adding easy extensions, of your choice, to the browser amazes me. The browser gives a choice for even the smallest of its features to be implemented by its users. Ranging from the visual bookmarking to downloading the videos button, Firefox provides everything or nothing depending on the user's choice. Therefore, the Firefox toolbar/plugin development approach appears clean and non-imposing to me.

Next thing that helps me stay connected to Firefox is that, these days, it doesn't require frequent refreshing to add an add-on. If you are more of an experimenting person like me, Firefox is full of life and novel features. It is an open platform for people with creative stride (both developers and users). In terms of speed I will support Chrome; however, Firefox is more complex yet sophisticated in terms of browsing experience.

Going Back to the History

Created by Dave Hyatt and Blake Ross, Firefox came a long way through its path of successes more than failure. Maintaining its cross-platform nature, Mozilla would never become obsolete and continues to encourage innovation since 2005. Firefox changed its face with the changing world. With the progression in technology, Mozilla has always been on the fore-front for implementation.

For years, Mozilla has been tested for reliability. Its rapid development cycle began since the launch of Firefox version 5. With the implementation of HTML5, CSS3, MathML and various other functionalities, the browser faced several critics but kept its improvement eminent.

Achievements through Firefox plug-in development

What made Firefox attract so many users? The answer is Add-ons. The strategy we spoke about in the beginning of this article is of significant importance when we talk about Mozilla's success. Mozilla developed a basic browser that is third-party compatible unlike other browsers, which failed to adopt this strategy before Firefox's market launch. Many browsers are even more flexible now; however, Firefox has its monopoly and its users have set up an understanding level with the browser.

Due to its extensive capability, Firefox toolbar development and Firefox sidebar development are the center of business for many companies. As more than 40 percent of the total population uses Mozilla browser, there is an obvious reason for high development in this area.

Mozilla also encourages custom Firefox toolbar development for those who have specific browsing needs. With extensive research and development resources, proficient developers evolve dynamic toolbars, which auto-format based upon a server side stimulus. Custom toolbars support personalized browsing and browsers like Firefox make the entire process of development and integration easier.

Mozilla is always open for creative individuals. It provides tools and explanation to help individuals give life to their imaginative and artistic thoughts. For developers, it is an open source platform to show case talent; and for users, it is a platform to experiment with the latest utility tools made available in the Mozilla market.

When the Forex Market Is Open

A common misconception of the Forex market, is that it is open 24 hours a day every day. This is an advantageous feature of the market for currencies, which some Forex brokers as well as some promoters of trading tools and software packages, love to latch onto in order to attract new clients. However, the currency market isn't actually always open.

Although you might have read or been told that the FX market is open every single hour of every day, it isn't. The Forex market is open 24 hours a day yes, but not for 7 days of the week; it is open 24 hours a day and around 5.5 days a week.

The foreign exchange market closes around 4PM each Friday and opens around 5PM each Sunday, EST. This means that between 4PM on Fridays and 5PM on Sundays, EST, you will not be able to actively trade currencies. You should understand this information and try to work around it. Actually, it is quite good that the Forex market is not open every day, as it forces traders and investors to rest; it's best to trade currencies when you're fresh.

However, if you do like to keep busy, you might want to consider dedicating some of your free time over the weekends to studying and researching. This way, you will be able to gain knowledge when you aren't able to invest, allowing you more time over Monday to Friday to practice and place orders. This is probably the most ideal way of trading Forex, no matter what your trading strategy is.

If this information is news to you, it is nothing really to worry about. However, if you are just getting started, you will definitely need to take this information into account when choosing your Forex trading strategy. This is because if you work a full-time job for example, you will need to try and find the time to trade Forex, without having to sacrifice your performance at work. It's obviously advised that you don't trade currencies at work; your performance at work would be poor and you would most likely not be able to concentrate on your Forex trading career properly - you could even get fired and lose your job.

Basically, you need to find time to yourself where you can really concentrate on your trading without any distractions. If you have lots of time on your hands, then that's great, however if you don't you might want to focus on more long-term Forex trading strategies (which require much less time). In fact, you should really focus on longer-term trading strategies no matter what your situation is, if you are a beginner; short-term trading strategies tend to be riskier and require more experience.

Remember that the times given above are also EST, so if your country is in GMT, the Forex market for you will actually close 9PM each Friday and open 10PM each Sunday. Using a world clock in Forex trading is important, so that you can keep track not only of when the currency market is open, but also of when the Forex market is most active - but that's a completely different matter.

In conclusion, the foreign exchange market is actually open 24 hours, 5.5 days a week and not 7 days a week. It closes 4PM each Friday and opens 5PM each Sunday, EST. You should take the FX market's opening and closing times into account, especially when choosing your Forex trading strategy. However for some people, even if this information is news to them, they won't be affected; you should just ensure that you are aware of this information before making any plans.

Using Line Charts in Forex Trading

The most commonly used type of chart in Forex trading, is known as the line chart. They are quite popular, especially among beginners. One of the reasons why these kinds of charts are popular among beginners, is because not only can they be very effective, but they are very simple and easy to use.

The Forex line chart is a style of chart that is constructed by connecting a series of data points together, in other words currency pair prices, over a specified time period in order to form a line. The line chart is the most basic style of chart used in Forex trading and in finance, in general. They allow currency traders to see how a particular currency pair's price has moved over a specific period of time, as specified by the individual trader. For example, a Forex trader might use a line chart to see the price action of GBP/USD over the past 6 months.

Line charts are generally better for Forex traders who wish to take advantage and ride long-term trends, but also for those who wish to find correlations between different currency pairs and other variables, including commodities and trade defects. These sorts of charts tend to be provided by all good online Forex brokers. If you have a good broker, you should be able to access line charts from within your trading platform. These are better to use, since the prices you will see on the ones provided to you by your broker's trading platform, will reflect the prices that you are actually given. Also, it is obviously a lot more convenient to use a line chart that is located within your Forex trading platform, rather than using one from an external source.

These types of charts tend to be effective when trading currencies, mainly because they are so simple, easy to use and keep track of. Line charts can be used very easily to spot directional changes in the prices of different currency pairs and exchange rates.

One disadvantage of using line charts, especially long-term ones, is that they do not show daily and short-term price volatility. Also, many Forex traders deem these types of charts as just too simplistic. Although they can be good for beginners just starting out, they perhaps aren't ideal for all currency traders. You can notice how simple these sorts of charts are, by comparing them with other types of Forex charts, such as candlestick charts.

In conclusion, line charts are used in Forex trading by beginners mainly, however all kinds of traders and investors can take advantage of these types of charts. They are particularly good for those who want to avoid complexity and for those who dislike technical analysis in general. However, if you are serious about trading currencies in the Forex market, you might want to consider using other kinds of charts too in addition to line charts, as they are very simplistic. They can be used to spot long-term trends and Forex traders can make a lot of money by using these sorts of charts, but more experienced traders and investors typically use more sophisticated chart types to spot trends.
